Kids Yoga Classes

Kids YogaYoga increases strength, flexibility, focus, and self-confidence. Yoga poses and breathing exercises relax the body and mind, strengthen the nervous and respiratory system, and improve concentration and relieve stress.  Children will be introduced to yoga with a fun theme each week–from Outer Space Yoga to Apple Picking at the Farm Yoga to Halloween Yoga!


Story Time Yoga for 3-6 year olds
. Each week we will read a fun and inspiring story, and then retell the story with dynamic yoga poses. We will twist, invert and stretch to strengthen our bodies and our minds. Each class ends with a final relaxation/mediation, which is infused with positive affirmations, leaving you feeling really, really good! Classes led by Karin Lefranc.

Stress Buster Yoga(Boys and Girls ages 6-11) We will build core strength and balance through creative yoga poses as we explore a different theme each session.  Learn powerful mindfulness techniques and practice weeding out stress and negative thoughts.  Each class ends with a final relaxation/mediation, which is infused with positive affirmations, leaving you feeling really, really good! This class is led by Jill Hebert.

  • Session II:  November 21 – December 19. Mondays 4-5 pm.  Five week series. $60.

Firefly Yoga – Saturdays!

Classes are 1 hour for boys & girls 6 to 10. Focused energy and relaxation will be explored through poses, games, movement and music. This class is taught by Laura Friday, a passionate licensed yoga teacher and trained musician. Towel and water bottle are recommended. Yoga mats are available.

  • November 12 – December 17,  Saturdays 11:15 – 12:15 am – Five week series.  $60/series.

Hartford Children’s Theatre

We are thrilled to partner with Hartford Children’s Theatre as acting inspires creativity, builds self-confidence, and promotes joyful self expression! Classes are led by Hartford Children’s Theatre Teaching Artists.

Story Theatre Ages 4-7 will explore becoming different characters, building self-confidence, empathy and creativity. We will learn about the theater by acting out fun stories and creating a performance piece! $125 per child.  Children will perform at 5:15 pm, on their final class day, 12/14.

One Act Play! Ages 8-12 will master acting techniques like building a character, projecting, emoting and creatively letting go to bring a script off the page and onto stage!  We choose a fun and exciting age-appropriate script, such as The Ever After, Not-So-Grimm tales, The Environmental Show, Anansi and The Moss Covered Rock. $125 per child. Acting builds self-confidence, empathy and creativity. Children will perform at 5:15 pm, on their final class day, 12/14.

Manners & Etiquette

Manners Rule!

Manners RULE & Can be Really Cool! Learn important social skills to boost self-confidence! In this dynamic two-week class, we will cover: Greetings and Introductions, Power words–Please, Thank You, You’re Welcome, Tact vs Integrity, Table Manners, Role of Host vs Guest, The Art of Conversation, Apologies and more! Each class is filled with fun role plays, games and activities to build your child’s sense of gratitude and empathy–as well as growing their self confidence and social skills!  Karin Lefranc, author of A Quest for Good Manners and certified children’s etiquette teacher teaches this class.

$45/child.  Ages 6-10.  A 10% sibling discount is offered.

Please Pass the Table Manners: If you get a minimum of 5 children, we will coordinate a time to run this fun and important class! We will learn all the rules of good etiquette over a delicious and fun 3-course dinner at First & Last Tavern.  Ages 6-12 will learn good table manners, including place settings, proper use of napkin, cutlery, plates and glasses.  Mastering these dining and conversational skills will help your child feel confident and poised in different social settings.  Ages 6-10, $45/child.  10% sibling discount.

High Tea & Etiquette: We will enjoy a delicious high tea with tea sandwiches, scones and fruit tea.  Through fun role-playing and games, we will also learn the basics of good etiquette, from greetings and introductions to good table manners and how to be a good host.  We will even learn how to greet the Queen, as you never know when you may be invited to Buckingham Palace. 11:30am to 1pm.  Please let us know of any food allergies.  $35 per child, 10% sibling discount.  Ages 5-12 for groups of 6 or more.

NOTE:  we can tailor our manners classes for girl scouts, boy scouts, Mom’s Groups and other Groups. Girls and boys learn important life skills while having lots of fun!  Contact Us to schedule!

Creative Writing Workshop (3rd – 6th graders)

Is your child a closet author? Does he/she have stories to tell? This writing workshop will help unleash your child’s imagination and creativity. Through fun group and individual writing activities, inventive prompts, and the sharing of ideas in a nonjudgmental and supportive environment, children will be inspired to put their thoughts on paper and will learn to create original stories.  Freelance writer Lori Miller Kase teaches this fun class on Thursday afternoons.  $125 per child.  Class size is limited to 8.

The Firefly Center Refund Policies:  Most of The Firefly Center classes are taught by independent teachers and therefore, occasionally refund policies will vary.  However, our general policy is to refund any class fees requested 72 hours prior to the start of the class or series.  Should you enroll in a class and need to cancel within 72 hours, monies paid may be applied to a future class or series.  Missed classes are not refundable but many classes offer make up class opportunities.  Please inquire if you are interested in the specific policy of a particular class.
